Top Teacher Award: $25,800 Total Cash Purse

Cash awards offered to the top ten teachers. To qualify, the teacher, with a minimum of 3 students must all be entered on a package. Alternatively, a teacher with less than 3 students on a package may qualify with a minimum of 100 entries. All entries must be received by deadline and paid in full otherwise they will not count towards top teacher awards. “Sharing” students does not qualify both teachers. However, once a teacher qualifies, points will accumulate from all students with whom they dance.

Top Teacher Point System

1 point for every Single Pro/Am, Student/Student & Amateur Entry. 5 points for each Pro/Am Multi-Dance entry. For each recall from Preliminary Rounds, 1 point is awarded. No deduction taken for uncontested events. Additional points awarded for placement as shown below. Adult Multi-Dance Entries receive double the points shown below.

  • 2nd place.….7 pts.
  • 3rd place.….6 pts.
  • 4th place.….5 pts.
  • 5th place.….4 pts.
  • 6th place.….3 pts.
  • 7th place.….2 pts.
  • 8th place.….1 pt.

Top Studio Awards

Trophies will be awarded to the top studios in the following categories:
Small Studio
From 1 to 2 competing students
Medium Studio
From 3 to 6 competing students.
Large Studio
7 or more competing students.

Top Student Awards

Top Male, Female and Amateur Couple Award
Trophies will be presented in each of the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels for both American & International Styles. Points are calculated from all entries and placements in the relevant styles and levels.

Top Solo Exhibitions

Prizes awarded in each level. Critique sheets will be issued

Every Pro-Am student and amateur couple competing in single dance events will receive a handsome personalized award in which to mount their gold, silver, bronze or finalist medals. Critique sheets will be issued for solo exhibitions. Scholarships checks will be made payable to the studio or teacher designated by the student. Student and Studio Awards based on the same point system as the Top Teacher.

Pro/Am Scholarships/Adult Multi-Dance $32,000 Total Cash Purse

Scholarship money will be awarded in Pro/Am and Amateur events. Pro/Am Scholarships include A, B & C Age Divisions. Award amounts shown apply to each of those age categories.

Top 20 Students DanceSport Series Vouchers $2,000

Can-Am DanceSport Gala is proud to be a World Pro-Am DanceSport Series Event in Region 7. Accumulation of points earned from callbacks and placements will determine the top 20 students who will each receive a $100 voucher that can be used towards Pro/Am entries at Series events. If any division has less than 6 entries scholarship purse will be half the amount. Scholarship money in Canadian Funds. Can-Am DanceSport reserves the right to cancel any event with less than 3 entries. The top three (3) ranking couples in any multi-Dance event are awarded the “Can-Am DanceSport” Gold, Silver & Bronze Medallions.

Can-Am Open Professional Championships

  • 1st – $2,000
  • 2nd – $1,500
  • 3rd – $1,200
  • 4th – $900
  • 5th – $600
  • 6th – $500

The organizers will award $200 per couple reaching the semi-final but not advancing to the final in the Can-Am Open Championships provided a quarter final is required.
