One-Dance Events

Available Levels
Closed EventsRestricted Syllabus. Competitors may dance in three consecutive levels and in two age groups (adults may dance down one age level, juniors may dance up one age level). A standard judge will observe all restricted closed one-dance and three-dance events. Competitors committing Infractions may be penalized or disqualified.

Open EventsUnrestricted Syllabus Competitions. Syllabus figure restrictions do not apply in the Open events. Competitors may dance in two consecutive levels and two age divisions.

Solo Exhibitions
Age divisions are the same as for single dances. Maximum time allowed: 2.5 minutes. Music will fade out after allotted time. Syllabus step restrictions do not apply to Solo Exhibitions. One routine in any one division. Maximum of 2 routines total per student. For all solo exhibitions music must be supplied on CD.

Pro/Am Scholarship Championships
A student may enter 2 age divisions in the “Closed” and “Open” Scholarship Championships and may dance up one level (example, Bronze and Silver or Silver and Open). NOTE: Previous winners of a Can-Am Closed Bronze 3-Dance event are not eligible to compete again in the same event in any age level. In order to enter a Scholarship, a student must dance single dances in that same category.

Closed Scholarship Awards: 1st — $250, 2nd — $150, 3rd — $100, 4th–6th – $50 Can-Am Vouchers

Can-Am DanceSport Gala is proud to be a World Pro/Am DanceSport Series event. Participation at the Can-Am will earn you points to determine your Regional and National Ranking and will score towards the selections for the Team Match at the Ohio Star Ball. The Can-Am is located in Region 7. We invite competitors who reside in any other region to use your accumulated $100 vouchers for up to 50% of your entry fees (maximum 3 vouchers per student) at the Can-Am DanceSport Gala Championships. The top twenty students at the Can-Am will receive a DanceSport Series gold pin and a $100 voucher that can be used towards competition entry fees at any other Series event during the year, located in a region other than your own. Anyone can enter these events whether accumulating Series points or not. Please go to www.dancesportseries.com for more information about the point system and rules.
